Bought my car and the previous owner had ripped off one of them so I purchased a replacement only to find that the mounting point for it had been ripped off as well. I removed the one that was still on there and I haven't had any problems on the streets, highways, track days, etc. No roll-overs and no high speed spin-outs yet

The front tires are responsible for a large portion of the lift on all cars. The strakes are useful. But in the same way that it is difficult to assess how deep a spoiler should be based on "feel" we use science to tell us that it should be there. The height is a compromise because people like to hit things with the front of the car, and why european cars come with much more functional spoilers....

Hi Folks !
Thank you for all your posts ! I tend to lean towards the camp of posters who are saying that the strakes are not all that important (particularly since I have a front OEM spoiler which practically covers them up). Still, I would refit them if I could find a way to modify / repair their mountings....but from your posts it doesn't seem that omitting them is much of a safety concern..particularly over here where you can only nail the car for a just a few seconds.

I would leave them on or put them back on if they were missing. But the aero effect is likely 1/5th that of putting the top down on the car or adding aftermarket body kits/wings. Your car won't change dramatically without them.
