Is the crank on your trashed block still ok? Parting out the motor is always a good way to recoup your costs. I know cam towers and rocker arms fly like hot cakes, Valves are trashed and so is the combustion chambers but there are still parts worth salvaging.

Yes, I planned on recouping a little bit of cash by selling whatever I could. I did not know cam towers & rocker arms were in such high demand though. Are these pieces a weak link or just the result of mis-torquing or something?

The 85k mile engine I mentioned in previous post apparently had different compression readings when I asked for confirmation; 50 psi off on a couple cylinders. The seller subsequently pulled the ad off ebay, so it feels like an honest mistake. If I still want it, he said he would take $1k off - probably needs rings and/or head gasket. Heck, I was thinking it should be tore down regardless. If the engine is out of the car, then why not rebuilt it "top-notch" before re-installing?

I have the old Comptech "stock" supercharger, which is supposed to be ~7.5 psi. That's not a lot, nonetheless, it does stress the engine a bit more.

Maybe I'm using the wrong search phrases, but what are the differences (if any) from an '04 block up to an '09? I know VSA/drive-by-wire was introduced in '06, but this affects just the intake plenum; the engine blocks are otherwise identical, right?

Bottom end yes, you'll have to transfer the crank position sensor from your old block.
