Honda designed it for the 9k rpm.

well wouldn’t a company making OE parts not take that into consideration?
I just don’t see why the clutch would be the issue

Your problem is a broken or dislodged clutch disc spring.

The fact that I knew you had an aftermarket clutch, just based on your problem statement says something. I've seen the issue a million times

Never buy aftermarket parts for this car, is my advice. With very few exceptions.

I would replace your clutch with one from Honda.

A lot of aftermarket discs come with springs that are not captive. They have about a 20K mile lifespan before they pop out and fail. You are right on target.

Its not just the 9K RPM that kills them. Its a combination of revs and vibration. You can't use an aftermarket clutch on a F22C (8200 RPM) either.

To answer your question...no, aftermarket companies do not take any of these type of design issues into consideration. That's one reason why they cost less. Autozone sells an Exedy clutch kit. Its trash.

You need (from Honda):
Pressure plate
Disc
Release bearing
Pilot bearing
Release bearing guide
High temp urea grease.

Try Hondaautomotiveparts.com

There's one type of OE replacement aftermarket clutch which works. But its rarely available...and you still want to buy the Honda genuine bearings, guide, and grease.

So its easier to just shop the entire thing at Honda.

Its not a hydraulic or shifter issue...so stop going down that road.

Here is one example of an aftermarket clutch failure. Read the final comment on the thread. Compare Honda vs aftermarket. The design and quality is not even close.

Google it and you'll find a massive amount of the same issue.

I've also replaced a bunch of clutches on S2000's. When you open it up, you'll see the issue too.

Whenever I put it into first it would boggle a lot and I would have to apply a lot gas to get it going. Even after that the gears were rough to get in after first. It wasn’t until I got on the freeway the car started to shift just fine with no resistance. I’m stumped on what it could be but it’s definitely something alarming and annoying to deal with
Do you remember the clutch disc and other parts manufacturer of the replacement parts?

Do you have photos of these parts? Or have links to photos?

Thanks!

Looks like they currently sell 3 types of clutches at Autozone. Not sure OP had the same options.

However, if OP chose the Exedy....its broken. For sure.
