Default S2000 does not like lower VTEC engagement

Hi guys,
I recently had my S2000 AP1 MY00 tuned with a VAFCII by BlackTrax.
Jei at BlackTrax lowered the VTEC engagement to 5400rpm (first trial) and the car hesitated when VTEC kicked in thus he kept raising 100rpm per run until it got to 6000rpm where the VTEC engagement was smooth. He tuned VTEC to engage at 6300rpm where it gave out the most hp/tq.
I did gain some hp/tq and a cleaner powerband with the VAFCII which I am very happy about but the higher rpm for VTEC engagement (higher than stock which is 6000rpm) is something that I am not very happy about.

Things I have done:
-AEM CAI intake (filter cleaned prior to the tune)
-Exhaust and test pipe
-Valve adjustment done prior to the tune
-VTEC solenoid gasket cleaned

So my question is, what can cause a s2000 to not like a lower VTEC engagement?
Any advice or suggestion is appreciated.

Thanks.

I needed a header before it tolerated lower vtec...before header could only go down to 5600 after 4700. With a testpipe sounds like you should be able to; I only have an hfc.

What exhaust?

My stock header does have a fat dent on the bottom.
Could that be the cause?

Exhaust is a Kakimoto GT1.0Z

something is wrong. my vtec is at 3600. and there was an MY06 with similar mods to you with a stock header and he had his set at 4200. we both had major gains, like in the 20's whp and wtq.

All Honda VTEC systems operate that way. You also need to be at operating temp, and have the correct oil pressure.

Well idk how most people set it up. But my vtec kicks in with about 70-75% throttle at 3600. But after 5600 rpm, it's all vtakkkk!!!!
