Default S2000 AP1 questions.

Hello -

I'm getting ready to build a Westfield Mega S2000 kit car and it uses the AP1 engine and transmission so I'll be shopping for a used drivetrain soon and have a few questions about it.

In looking around I see that one can find junk yard engines as well as 'JDM' engines. The junk yard stuff is pretty straight forward and I think I should be able to find a drivetrain this way. At the same time eBay is full of lowish mileage (or so they say!?) drivetrains listed as JDM. The pricing differences between the junk yard engines and JDM is not really a big deal and I just wonder about the JDM engines and how they might differ from USA spec engines.

I guess my concern over the JDM engines are that there may be some differences between the US spec and Japan spec engines that would cause me troubles.....things like sensors and the like.

So what is the wisdom on this? Can one swap a JDM engine for a USA spec engine or are there issues here? Has anyone here swapped a USA spec for a JDM?

Thanks in advance for your wisdom and advice.

Dave

The JDM engine can be swapped in place of a USDM engine no problem

Thanks so much.

Do you know if anyone has gone this route and had good, bad or other experiences with a JDM engine?

The JDM has a higher compression and makes about 10HP more than USDM.

Cool - I'd have to check to be sure that the tune will work with that higher comp ratio and the 91 octane water I can get for fuel here in the 3rd world country of Montana.

Thanks for the info.
