Maybe your friends are right about a fuel surge tank solving your problem. Only one way to find out I'm afraid
Hopefully I don't need a surge tank when I take mine to the track...
when I installed the Radium double canister according to the open system (specific for the track) the idle was irregular. From a standstill if you accelerated and released the gas the minimum sobbed and then turned off the car, and when I drove at a constant speed and closed and re-opened the gas there was a scorbutic on / off. I put the radium in closed (as recommended for daily driving) and everything is back in place. you can check the info in the FAQ or radium web site

I always ran a adjustable pressure sender hooked to a light so if my oil pressure did drop the light would get my attention, I don't care how good you think you can drive you can't look at a gauge and the track 100% of the time. Get something like this and set it to 45 psi, yes the light will be lit up at idle but at just about anything over idle the light will turn off. You want the light to tell you if or when your oil pressure drops when you're on the track and concentrating on driving. Mine was in a track only car, but if I ran it on the street I'd put a switch in line so I could turn the light off on the street.

Longacre Adjustable Oil Pressure Sender - 15-50 PSI, 1/8" NPT

Edit, when I say a light I mean a LED light up by the a pillar(corner of front windshield) not the cars idiot light.
