why AP2 burn less oil is because when they mill the bore in AP2, they mount a head and torque it down first to make the process even more precise. Not done on the AP1.

yeah, i've read/heard this also.

My '06 hasen't burned a drop that I can tell. Not sure yet weather I'm glad or not. I always thought that any car should use at least a little if for no other reason than upper cylinder lubrication. My odometer is right at 7k now.
I think I'm going to accept this as normal since I've seen other posters claim the same thing.

two things:

its an ap2

its pretty new

my 06 is at 6400 miles, and i did burn some oil during break in, maybe 3/4 of a quart between 4-3000 miles. after my oil change at 3800 miles(castrol gtx), i havent burned a single drop. any newer ap2 shouldnt burn much oil, if any at all.

I wondering if the oil vendor type would have anything to do with it?

Mobil 1 10w30 syn vs Castrol 10w30 syn etc...

I'm reading that Mobil 1 (which I use religiously) seems to burn more then others and when there was a swtich it changed.

It's a hard test to prove since there would be alot of variables to deal with.

I'm still running dino and will be until 10k. My car was basically broke in on the Interstate with about 5,000mi in the first 6200.
I doubt it makes much difference which synthetic you use or even some oil usage as long as it's kept topped-off.
I'm going with Mobil-1 within the next couple of months only becuase it's available everywhere and trust that this synthetic and the company have extensive research behind their product.
I'm also confident that users of any major brand synthetic will have equal results and any question of which is better can only be debated and (to date) never proved.
For users of synthetic, use the brand that you have the most confidence in. Your feeling that you are taking the best care of your car using what you think really is the best is probably more important than than brand you decide to use.

i apologize for the grammical error. funny thing was i had a date and was in a rush. well i have a 02 with 39600 mi on it. exactly a month ago i changed my oil with mobil 1 and fill the motor up to the reccomended specs. now, a month later my as i checked my oil, there was only 1/4 left on the dip stick! I did however feel some oil on the bottom of my oil filter a couple weeks ago. and im curious to see if thats part of the reason.......thanks for all the replies
