Running with out exhaust
I'd have to leave the cat in, otherwise the ECU would shit purple twinkies, but do you think there would be any gains?
Yes is would be loud, and this would be for on the track only. But at a ITR event I went to, some were doing just that.

It would have for sure a gain, the weight of the exhaust would be gone, but other than that I wouldn't be the one to know. You could test it at a drag strip, but that'd take like $20 on a tune & test day.

I'm not too sure about this, but wouldn't there be more backpressure? That affects low end more though, so I guess it wouldn't be a factor if there really is more.

krazik,
Because one of my Nippon exhaust canisters was being repaired...I was running the car with only the resonator piping.
It was loud...but it sounded pretty good. Running the car strait from the cat will be loud as heck. I noticed that I lost some low end in a race with my bud ITR.

Mugen tried this in their development, and found only 1-2 peak hp improvement! IOW, the stock exhaust is *excellent*. However, as Mugen points out, it weighs a ton, so you'll gain something just by shedding that 50 lbs or so...

Even if you factor in the 50 lb weight loss, thats figures backwards to over 20 HP gained.
Justin, do you think thats right?

With the exhaust on I was hitting 94mph. Then the next week I had the flange welded in and dropped the exhaust and went to the track. My mph was now 98 but I only dropped 1 tenth due to spinning. I have had the samething happen to me when I had my 99 Civic Si, although I didn't gain 4mph but instead 2.5mph. My S2k has 9000 miles on it now and there was about 50 mile difference in the 2 track days. Maybe I did something different in my driving style the second time, I don't know.....it's weird to me too
