i've noticed it happens when there is a major temp. diff. for example when i go to work in the morning, its like 30 degrees. then by the afternoon, its 60 degrees. this big temperature difference forces the map sensor to readapt to settings. it only happens maybe once a day, if it happens numerous times per day, you got a faulty map sensor or ecu.

Try this, I am having the same problem so I am resetting the ECU and gonna thump the MAP a couple times. When resetting the ECU, there are a few more steps you should do other than merely pulling a fuse or disconnecting the negative cable. I know on the Mr2 it slightly optimizes the ECU and quickly gets the ECU to learn the settings quicker so I figure the same results here. Reset the computer as normal (pluck fuse or discon. battery), leave for 2-3 minutes to allow full reset. Reconnect, after that start the car, ALL ELECTRONICS OFF, no radio, no A/C, no heat, NOTHING. Let it idle for a minute or 2, then slowly give it some gas to 3k-3500 rpms, hold there for 15-20 secs, release back to idle. Repeat back to 3k-3500 rpms, hold for another 15-20 secs, release and let idle for another 10 secs or so. Then go up to 4k or so rpms, release let idle. Then apply some pressure and get the rpms around 6k-7k and release once achieved, do that a time or two(6k-7k rpms). Voila, the ECU should be properly adjusted, this works well with mods too.

you may be able to find out why your check engine light is on by going to http://www.baustnet.com/honda/misc/dtc.htm

and telling us what blinks you get so I can look it up in the helm manual. otherwise you will have to buy an OBD-2 scanner or take it in to the dealer
