Reviving again. I've done a lot of reading and there doesn't seem to be an obvious fix. My car will sometimes drop idle complete and die. I have to hold the revs up with the throttle. This just started and happens 1 out of every 20 times I start the car up. Other times it's normal. I'll start tinkering everything myself, too, but it seems all the common map whack, iacv, throttle body cleaning doesn't really fix it.

Any hints or tips from anyone who had this problem?
I recently fixed this problem on mine. It was the injectors.

Try cleaning them, or having them cleaned. I used SeaFoam on mine, and it seemed to do the trick.

Did you use SeaFoam in the gas tank or vacuum hose (break booster?) ? I fixed my idle drop already, but would still like to seafoam it to make it more 'bullet proof.'

I read that when the iacv, sparks, map whacks didn't work one member said a new oil pressure sensor worked for him. I noticed my oil was on the low end at like 1/3 full on the X's stick (went on a trip to from sf to sd) and I poured in a 3/4 of a quart to make the stick 4/5 X's full (omg missing almost a whole quart). My rev drops at idle went away and it doesn't have that bogging symptom when dropping revs in neutral. Seems the s2k needs oil pressure (and to be topped off with oil).

*After my oil change I drove 3.5k miles and it MY03 ate up about 3/4 of a quart. I used 5w-30 mobile full syn. I Vtec once a week and it's my DD wtih 92,xxx. I may switch to something thicker, maybe 5w-40.

I hope they helps anyone who hasn't fixed it yet after doing all the other obvious stuff. If topping off the oil doesn't help, a new oil pressure sensor may be your solution.

Bumping this one up as I have been having these symptoms for some time. So far I have:

Changed plugs
Oil change
Coolant change
Battery change
Throttle body was bored out
MAP wak
IAC cleaned several times

I am thinking of trying the injector story as well as the car ok build up. Also i have close to 100k miles and thinking it may possibly be the clutch as well? What kind of mileage do those of you having this issue have? Most importantly this issue only happens when cold starting. Once warmed up she's fine.

Try using a buddies throttle body and you can narrow it down. Even borrow an iacv

I'm just gonna sit here and watch how this thread goes, cause three or four times this month I had this same idle issue. Right now it's a trivial thing, no stalling but felt close. That's why I'm on this thread to see if it's common issue or not. Good luck!

Did you check if the connections on the battery were clean & secure?
