This is the first I've heard of this. I'd be safe and toss your throttle cable in the garbage and get a new one. You may have a fray inside where you can't see it, and it may stick again. Next time it may be at WOT and somebody could get killed.
I would isolate it, and make certain it's the cable, or the throttle body.

I have noticed that my throttle body got a little "stiff" and wouldn't return to the idle position after a lot of use. I sprayed mine with carb cleaner and it is fine now. I have 57,000 miles on mine and this occurred around 45,000 or so. It has been fine after the one cleaning. (The Helm's manual recommends replacing the throttle body if there is a problem with binding. I was able to fix mine by cleaning it with carburetor cleaner spray.)
I was able to test mine by opening the throttle by hand and removing the cable from the curved guide on the end of the shaft. This gave me slack in the cable to move the throttle by itself to isolate where the trouble was. If you do this, do not bend the cable. I also removed the air intake hose from the airbox (or CAI) to get at the throttle shaft and butterfly.
As Billman mentioned, sticking throttles are nothing to mess around with and could easily be life threatening.

I work as a mechanic and you need to clean your throttle sometimes, gunk builds up in there and the throttle gets stuck on a open position. Its a easy fix though, just spray some carb cleaner in there and work the throttle a little.
