Don't rev a cold engine, or perhaps even worse, lug a cold engine. Its a dirty shame one would have to learn that on an internet forum for a high performance car.

1. I had to read this twice to see if it was a joke, someone pulling someone's chain.

You aren't doing it right brah : hold the throttle down AS SOON as the car fires up and don't let off until you hear lots of noise and see blue smoke pouring out the exhaust. This'll let you know that it's warm and ready for VTEC

It's pretty nice in here. I'm sure none of the other posters have EVER hit their cold rev limiter

I haven't. Not even close. But anyway OP made it sound like its a regular occurance that he's trying to vtec cold and wondering why it won't engage. That would be sad on many levels.

Maybe that isn't what he meant but that is how we read it.

I had this problem when my coolant temp sensor messed up. Guage always red 1 bar and engine wouldnt rev past 5 or 6k. It was years ago but thats how i remember it. Didnt matter how long I drove, it wouldnt "warm up" per the ECU so I couldnt rev.

I did it once or twice years ago. I just let it be a lesson to let it warm up and don't drive it til then. Also, check your oil level. Being a new S driver, I would advise you check it often anyways. They're known for burning oil.

I've never went past 3k until 2 bars and never past 5k until 15-20 miles on 3 bars... Better safe than sorry. The difference in 150k miles and 300+ in the long run. Piston rings and rod bearings don't like being loaded heavily or moved in a hurry with thick oil...
