With the car off, have someone sit in your car. Open the hood and stand on the driver's side and look at the top of the engine where the intake tube goes in. Tell your assistant to push slowly on the gas pedal. You will notice something moving. The thing that moves is moved by a "cable" (throttle cable) that goes into a black tube. This tube curls around and goes through the firewall and into the inside of the car where your assistance is sitting.
You own a very complex piece of machinery. You should consider taking a basic course in "getting to know your car" OR check out www.howstuffworks.com
Read the owner's manual or get the Helm service manual. You really should get to know your car better to know some of the basics of what makes it tick.

I don't have specific experience with straight pipes on S2k but if there's not enough back pressure in the exhaust (Some systems work better with a 'smidge of back pressure, especially with the enormously long overlap of the VTEC lobes) You could easily add a supertrap and play with back pressure a bit.

Also, with an OBDII system, if the computer doesn't see that the catalytic converter is working, it will trip a check engine light. Does your check engine light still come on when you turn the ignition on? (I have seen a light bulb removed to get around the CEL problem) If you see the CEL when you turn the key on, then just ignore this paragraph!

What xviper is saying is that your gas pedal may actually be hitting the floor mat before giving the engine W.O.T. (wide open throttle). Get a good tire gauge and check your tire pressures. On a low torque, high rev engine, this could have an effect on acceleration.
