royal purple oil
I did search and couldnt find anything about RP, but I am new to the S2000 I got mine about a month ago and its time for an oil change and I use to use royal purple oil in my prelude (witch I had before the S) and I loved it! I was planning on using it on the S but I wanted to know if any one else has or does use RP oil on there S and like it or dislike it. I know the S is different from the prelude so thats why I am just asking if its ok to use this oil and expect good results over mobile 1 or any other synth oil. thanks for any input.

I switched to RP 10W30 at 2,355 miles. At the time, the car was exactly two years old (built 10/02, oil change 10/04). I changed it because I was going to store the car and I wasn't aware of the recommended break-in requirement. Within the first mile of driving, I noticed a difference in the way the engine sounded and felt. Previously, it had a very rough growl when under load, accelerating from 4,000rpm to redline. The RP seemed to smooth it out and quiet it a little.
I suspect that break-in has not been a problem. My gas mileage has gone from 21-22 two years ago to as high as 28 recently. While it's not an empirical way to determine the engine's break-in, it leads me to believe that my engine is healthy.
RP is known to shear more quickly than other comparable synthetics. This is not a concern to me, because I change the oil frequently enough that it's not a worry. Other than it's tendency to shear, there should be no concern with using RP. I also use the RP Synchromax in my trans and the MaxGear in my diff.
After my next oil change next spring, I will submit a sample for analysis and report the results here in UTH.
My recommendation would be to use RP if you're so inclined and change it at 5,000 mile intervals.

Some RP UOA's from bitog:

Now you can make up your own mind whether or not "it sucks". The owner of bitog uses RP 15W40 in his truck, too. FWIW. So if you use it in your car, you're in pretty good company.
