rough shift from 5th to 6th

ok...so ive only had my s2k for 3 weeks and im starting to get a little discouraged 
The check engine light has been on since the second day ive owned it and now when i was bringing it back to NY from CO it would nt go into 6th gear. This only happened once on the way home and it now goes into 6th but it seem really rough both going into and out of that gear. When the incident occured it was like the gear just wasnt there...then when it did find the spot it just started grinding until it went in. I got some transmission fluid from honda and am going to try putting that in tomorrow.
Does the s2k have both a fill and a drain plug on the trans?
or is this something ill have to have the shop do..(pump it in from the drain plug)
also i noticed today, over the "clutch buzz' during deceleration, another sound...kinda like a winding sound even when i put it in neutral until the car stops.
Is it worth changing the rear diff fluid as well?
is the gear lube difficult to change?
hope my honda gets better soon...

You developed burrs on the 6th gear side of the 5th-6th gear drive cog, and skip shifting made it worse.
With the car cold in the morning, row the shifter from 5th to 6th about 100 times. Sometimes, you will get lucky and knock down the burrs and the transmission will fix itself. This must be done after the car sits overnight and has not been started, so most of the oil has drained off the cog. you want a dry cog for this fix.
Afterwards, OPERATING the car under load in 5th gear and 6th gear (WOT then off then on) will further flatten thwe burrs and could possibly cure it completely.
There's a thread title about a guy losing 5th gear after a track day, I told a lot of this issue in that thread.
