Rough Idle and CEL
Ok, the idle in my MY2000 got really rough recently and then it threw a CEL. I pulled the codes P0302 and P0303 (random misfire in cylinders2/3).
I did my hw on the forum here and followed the steps someone posted for these codes. I got so seafoam and new OEM spark plugs, i figured it was the plugs but i decided to get both jus in case.
To my utter surprise, when i pulled the plugs, cylinders 2 and 3 plugs were completely destroyed!!! I dont know if i missed an important change interval for my plugs, they were Bosch Platinum +4 plugs or something like that, i left them in longer than i would have liked (30K miles) but i though 25K miles was a decent interval, please tell me if i am wrong.
My question is what did i do do get my plugs like this?? (in the pics below) and by the look of the coilpacks, should i replace them?
the cylinder 2 coil pack was in very very loose some how, this might be why this happened but the cylinder 3 pack was in tight and the same thing happened...
I put in the new plugs and she runs smoother than she has in a long while, which makes me feel good
As you can see, all of the 4 prongs at the bottom of the 2 and 3 plugs are gone... and the top piece of 3 fell out of my coilpack, it looked like shrap metal

Bosch plus 4 are definately the wrong plug to run on the S, always run the NGK you wont see these issues with the NGK. Drain your oil and look for metal. Those prongs are somewheres. If you find metal you have your answer, next thing i would do is a compression check.
Those bosch backed out on you!!!!
A new set of coil packs would be the next thing i change if i were you.

Were the plugs tight when you took them out? How tight did you torque them when you put them in? Looks like they backed out some, allowing hot exhaust gasses to blow by and damage the coil packs. There was a recall for MY00 S2000s to replace the spark plugs and use a new, higher torque specification due to a similar issue. (Only on cylinder 4 though, IIRC.)

The plugs were not tightened correctly, or backed out.
Get some OEM NGK plugs, 2 new coils and hope the electrodes didn't take out the bores.
Not the 1st time a Bosch platinum has facked something up.

the plug in cyl 2 wasnt tight but the rest were, i know i put them tight when i was last in there for a valve adjustment. im pretty good at taken my time when doin stuff myself
my questions is, if my car is runnin good now are the new coil packs necessary and the compression test necessary or just extras?
Ill change my oil tomorrow im just wondering if the 4 prongs just broke of in the past 45 miles or so when the CEL came on or a while back, because the idles been whack for a week or so

There was a recall for MY00 S2000s to replace the spark plugs and use a new, higher torque specification due to a similar issue. (Only on cylinder 4 though, IIRC.)

Well like everyone said the plugs are wrong...It seems like you might have a misfire in cylinder 2 and 3. Any other codes? Fuel related? Very strange that only 2 of the 4 are damaged like that.
