Notice how the rotor and the hat on this pic are two seperate pieces. The rotor itself can actually move free of the hat. This allows it to perfectly center itself between the two pads as they clamp down, thereby optimizing heat and pressure distribution.

The reason no one uses them on street cars is because they are noisy as hell since they actually rattle around between the caliper (and they are expensive).

I bought a few screws from Honda to be safe but I never used them. I used one lug nut to hold it in place while i reinstalled the calipers back and the brakes will hold the rotor while u put the wheel back and in turn the wheel will hold the rotor in place when the brakes are not being used.

I did strip the first 2 screws by hand but then I used a drill to remove them. Sprayed them with a penetrating lubricant (not KY ) and held the drill firmly into the screw and it came out. Could have re-used them but decided not to.
Be careful if you use a lugnut to hold the rotor down. Most lugnuts are tapered and if you tighten it down to hold the rotor firmly it can snap the stud off if it goes too far into the taper.

The same thing happened on my Civic, I used an impact screwdriver and broke the tip of the bit off inside the screw. 189k on the original rotors FTL

Turns out that I have a warped rotor. I just had it turned but I guess you can still turn a rotor that's warped. Oh well. Live and learn.
