Rod knock or loud valves?

Glad you found that missing nut. That had to be a BIG relief. Adjuster screw isn't stretched or anything that may make it hard to torque the thing down properly?

Just got everything put back together and started up the car. Sounds great! Thanks for all your help guys.

Oh dang, you are lucky!! That is my greatest fear after a VA, I have a process of adjust, torque to spec, recheck, but I am always fearful of forgetting to torque one of those buggers down.
Although, I am not sure that they could actually make it out of the head, I always thought they would be too big to get through the channels?

This may be a silly question... but with that adjusting nut off during some "hard driving" wouldn't the valve have been extremely loose? Could that have caused some damage elsewhere?

That nut just locks the adjustment, it is just a jam nut. So, yeah the valve would have the ability to loosen or tighten for that matter, but wouldn't necessarily go to the extreame of one or the other.

Oh it goes to an extreme. Extremely tight means burned valves if you idle the car a lot, ie street drive it. Extremely loose, a horrible racket and if you're hitting it, you can potentially mushroom the valve stems tips. Not to mention the valve won't open all the way causing reduced performance.
