ringing from the rear of car when accelerating.
Thanks in advance for those that take the time to offer advice.
As stated in another thread, I have about 180 miles on the car, and since day one the car has made what i can only describe as a "ringing" or "whining" but much closer to a long consistant ring. coming from teh rear of the car. This only occurs under acceleration, and since there are so few miles, obviously it is happening at somewhat slight acceleration. At first i kinda thought it might be "newness" but have since decided that is probably not the case.
As you may know,i am sensitive to dealership service centers, so i would prefer to go into the dealership (not russsell and smith) with as much information as possible.
Any ideas,on what this may be?

First check:
- spare tire hold down nut tight?
- passenger seat belt touching anything?
- passenger seat bumping up against anything?
- soft top latches locked when top down?
- eliminate the shifter by holding it firm to see if the ringing goes away.
When under acceleration, the load is very unique. This load can convey itself in much more exhaust system vibration and movement. Check to see if the tips of bolted on tight and that none of the exhaust system parts touch anything when you manually move it at various places. Going underneath and using the palm of your gloved hand and thumping all along the exhaust system may reveal something, as would grabbing it and giving it some really good wiggles. Use jackstands and be careful.

While going under / over / around the car check for leftover spring spacers.
(rubber "blocks" between the springs to create more ride height for transport).
Is there anything in the "Secret Compartment" that could rattle?
Check the tools in the trunk, they may rattle or ring.
The trunk release cable?
Fuel filler pipe?
Trunk hinges / springs?
(How long do you want this list )
What made you change yor mind?
Let us know what you find.

I have had a bad experience with the dealer service dept lately and don't wish to duplicate it.
Any suggestions on things to check would be appreciated make the list as long as you can.

As a new owner I have to say do your break-in and then bitch. It may work itself in. I had many mechanical noises that have gone away.
I think I know what you're talking about though. When the car is cold, it does this bell housing resonance ring when accelerating. Mine is very faint and I think it goes away when the car warms up.
