Rick's brake caliper swap - mushy pedal but no air
#11
I have seen this problem with improper bleeding or use of speed bleeders (it is not a sequence problem). Open the bleeders a minimum amount and be sure the brakes are pumped with the parking brake off and on.

Another thing to try is to beed by pressurizing the system and then opening the bleeder. Meaning, work the brake pedal a few times, hold, open the bleeder, and close when it hits the floor. I've had to do this on different cars at different times, seems it helps get out air trapped in the system.

OK all, Darin @ Westend Alignment just did me a huge favor.
While he had my baby on the rack, he clamped all 4 brake lines and pinpointed that the front left line is definetely the culprit. I'm off to bleed it, wash it and then take pix to reward you all.

Make sure you re-torque the caliper mounting bolts after a track day.
I found significant loosening on the powder-coated calipers after a few weeks. I concluded it was due to the thickness of the powder coating melting away and/or compressing in the area where the mounting surfaces meet up.
Perhaps you won't have this problem if you don't track your car, or if they are now masking off the mounting surface when powder coating. But check anyway . Loose calipers are no fun!

Just a question.
Did you have the car running while bleeding the brakes?
I had the same prob initially and found that turning the car on will help get the air out of ABS pump. They worked great after that.
