Default Rich vs. lean

My question is two-fold: Which way is better to run and how do you know if you're running either way? I think if you're running rich you'll see a build up of carbon on your exhaust tips, correct? What about running lean?

running rich is safer but will definately make ports dirty, at least your engine will be running. running too lean = detonation = bye bye engine.'

btw run an air/fuel ratio gauge to be 100% sure. a stock f20c runs rich during vtec engagement, helps the engine stay cooler.

Rich = less power.

Lean = blown engine.

Hence, neither one is "better." Rich, however, would be the lesser of 2 evils.

I feel your pain. I myself will be choosing b/n the lesser of 2 evils come Nov 2.

Thanks guys for your replies. I'm on the rich side of things, I'll run an air/fuel mixture test soon.

Don't forget too rich washes the oil from the cylinders and scuffs pistons/rings.

Better check for richness at the plugs.
