Rev problem

Rev problem
Ok. So Im drving in cali and I decided to go from 40mph to 70mph rather quickly in 4th gear. Well as I open up the throttle (a little hard, but the pedal is not on the floor) to go on to the highway, my engine revs all the way from 4k to 7k bu the power isnt translated to the wheels. I tried again and again it did it. I tried it in each gear, and it did it. I have been able to duplicate it whenever. Then I was able to duplicate it in every gear everyday after that. I thought it was the MAF but I would be stalling and then I thought it's the tranny, but it was in gear, I wasnt shifting as it occured. Could it be a change in tranny fluid is in order? has anyone had similar circumstances?

It had crossed my mind, but it goes into gear no problem. I thought that when the clutch starts to go that you begin to lose gears. Is this another way of the car telling me a new clutch is in order?

It sounds like your clutch is slipping! Test it, by trying to start from 0 in gear 3 and see what happens! Alternatively, try to drive gear 3 on a hill.. Basically, try to drive it with load as much as you can, if the rev's increase, and your speed doesn't it'll mean something. If you stall in both, it is highly likely that your clutch is worn and needs replacement/adjustment.
A little something someone told me to try, I found it worked in all my cars.

Clutch is toast, or the slave is binding up. How many miles?
(Softtop replaced, new ball joints, new tires, new wheel stud, new trunk, new trunk spring, new third break light). I got the car with 73200 last year. I can count on 2 hand the time Ive driven it. Guess I better start saving for a new clutch kit and flywheel.

I would like to add that my friend drives a 09 GTI and he complained that the engagement point on my car was akward. He said that "it's either clutch or no clutch at at all." He had a similar problem in his civic and he said an adjusted clutch work. With his GTI the engagement point is quick. There is no play with his clutch like there is with mine. He recommended an adjustment, but I think if I adjust it, I may as well get a new ACT clutch kit and prolite flywheel.
