Default Rev limiter

One semi-sober night I got into my car in an empty parking lot with a crowd of friends and friends of friends. Needless to say a friend screamed out "SWING IT!" and I fell into the peer pressure and did it.

It was beautiful. I drove off pretending I wasn't going to do it, then rev'd to 5 grand, dumped the clutch and yanked the wheel left. Swung it around three times to realize that the tach was pegged to 9 grand and the car didn't make a "cut-off" sound and let off.

I probably didn't realize the sound because of the hi revs and tires being wasted.

I asked my friend the next day if my car would have a rev limiter so idiots like me wouldn't over rev and damage their motor. He said all new cars have them now a days and not to worry. But I worry and need to know from someone who actually has the car.

So here are the questions:

Is there a rev limiter? If so when does it engage?
If not what kind of damage might I have done?

BTW, I've learned my lesson and I will NEVER do it again. I've already refrained from "drifting" and "swinging it." Still working on the "driving fast" part.

Oh crap, I found the answer to my question. Yes it does have a rev limiter. But to answer the second one following it: When does it engage? I swear it can go a little past 9k.

There are 2 rev limiters on this car. One is at about 6000 rpm until the engine gets up to a minimum coolant temp ("3 bars" on a pre-'04 car). The other one is at about 9000 rpm.

Hate to go against god on this one, but i think the limiter before the coolant is warm is at 7k.

I've never had to run into the cold limiter, but the hot one in a 2000 car is about 9400rpm. Easiest to check when hitting the limiter in 5th.

could be true about the 9000 thing, but I know by experience that the tach hits 9000, then flashes 3 times as the revs keep climbing, then the limiter kicks in.

So I would imagine that the limiter is around 9200-9300

It may be the tach reads a bit high (my OBD log always seems a little lower than what I saw).. it has been reported that the ECU is set for 9000, and the Mugen ECU is documented as a 9000 RPM limiter.
Mugen ECU cuts fuel at 8900RPM also.

the amuse one sets the rev limiter @ 9200RPM.

The documentation says 9000 not 8900 and that is how it appears to work.

my rev limiter engages at 8930/min.

This was tested on the dyno.

The built in rev counter is always lying a little bit.
