Retrofit F22C into AP1? Possible? Easy or hard?

Exactly, it's ratios are more widely spaced. Closer ratios = better for roadcourse work. At the drag strip, the AP2 tranny might be preferred...

Honda goofed. The AP! tranny fits the AP2 engine better and vice versa
1st is just too short with only 8200 revs and it takes 3 gears to hit 60 which can be quite a prob on an autocross course

If the search weren't down I could quickly find the Best Motoring vid where Tsuchiya and some big shot a Spoon both agreed that the F20 should have had the AP2 tranny and the F22 should have had the AP1 tranny. On the road course the AP2 they tested wasn't as fast as it could have been if it didn't have to shift so frequently.

Google like this when search is broken:

All comments(and the video) very enlightening, and for someone with 80K mi on a stock MY01 Wildncrazy's quote rings true. Perhaps Honda should have simply lowered the overall gear ratios a bit(at the differential?) and left the rest of the car alone?
Ironically, I got into this because my AP1 tranny is on its way out, but this discussion is leading me to two possible choices; 1- keep my perfectly fine F20 and obtain an AP2 tranny(retaining the light flywheel). 2- Repair or replace my AP1 tranny and obtain an F22 to put in front of it. (or 3-lower differential gearing!)
Path of least resistance(and least $$!) would appear to be "option 1". Giving up the 9K redline would be sad. Also, I'm mostly into spirited, winding mountain road driving and rarely see 100mph, so the tall high gears in the AP2 tranny would not matter much. In seven years I've probably spent something like 30 minutes in sixth gear. I'll bet the AP2 5th gear will be a fine freeway gear for me.
Thanks again to all- Otis
