Retrofit F22C into AP1? Possible? Easy or hard?
I hate to ask questions that have probably been covered but the site search engine seems to be down. I'm considering dropping an AP2 engine+Tranny into my MY01. Anyone have experience with this? Would the AP1 ECU run the thing OK? Obviously you would have to watch the revs with care.I'd really appreciate stories of any first-hand experience out there. Thanks in advance-

It's been done...
Personally, I'd stick with the AP1 transmission (and lighter flywheel, of course!).

Thanks- I've just always felt that the lower gears are a bit tall on the AP1. Tends to bog a bit off the line, so I'm hoping the AP2 tranny will help. Then I got to thinking about having a bit more torque...
Got to admit that after 80K miles on the F20 I'd miss the 9K redline.

Buy an '04 or '05 complete motor and it will be nearly plug-and-play. You will need to modify a small bracket that prevents the fuel feed line from rotating on the fuel rail One of the prongs will need to be bent or cut off to allow the larger AP1 fuel feed line to attach to the rail. You could also swap in your original AP1 fuel rail. I'm running an '05 motor in my '02.
I recommend installing an AP1 flywheel and retaining your AP1 clutch slave cylinder as well.

You can also use the MY06+ if you keep your AP1 intake manifold + TB and upgrade to the Hondata ECU for the non-DBW cars. The MY06+ long block will have the correct sensors already installed for that Hondata ECU.
I also say you should keep the AP1 tranny with the AP2 block. And of course the AP1 flywheel.
If you decide to get the MY04-05 F22, then I would recommend you also get the Modifry shift beeper and train yourself to shift at 8500rpm. Or get a Greddy EMU, which can force a lower redline.
If you go with the MY06+ and Hondata ECU, then you can have the tuner set the redline at 8500rpm.

the most "plug and play" swap would be to just swap an 04-05 F22 longblock only into your ap1. Definatly keep the ap1 flywheel and tranny. I highly recommend using at least a vafc for tuning. I did this swap 3 years ago and love it.
