Default Resonator Removal

I have searched the removal of the resonator but can not find whether there is a correct way to do it. Do you keep the small piece of pipe that is perpendicular to the rest of the exhaust or remove it also? I am sure that this thing has a technical name. Also when removing the resonator, do you just clamp a pipe over the two cut ends or butt weld a piece in?
Thanks for the help...Rich

the perpendicular piece you are referring to is the heimholtz pipe/resonator. you CAN take it off when you're removing the main resonator, but you will get more rasp/buzz. when i remove my main resonator i will be leaving the heimholtz in place. as for installation, i will be getting it welded not clamped.
