Revived from the dead.

I've searched and I understand that both (front and rear) rotors need the philips screws removed from their face. After that can they be tapped out or is there another step that I am missing? The first time I replaced the rear pads the piston in the caliper threw me for a loop (and wasted a half hour). I am trying to avoid something like this.

Thanks,

BTW the DIY stickies does not have a write up for this. (it could be that its just that simple)

2mm over the minimum thickness is alot, considering every time you machine the rotors you only take off around .003 of an inch. The rotors should last you at least 100k if you dont track the car. Measure it again. You don't need to spend money when its not necessary. Take off the rotors, measure it and have it machined.
.003 in. doesnt seem like enough to remove some of the marks on rotors. that is the thickness of paper.

Well, you have to take the caliper off. And rotors can bond to the hub, requiring either some taps from a hammer or (the official Honda way) popping them off by running some bolts into holes pretapped for the purpose.

But it's really quite straightforward. Just don't let the calipers hang from the brake hoses -- always support them. I tend to find a cardboard box of the required height and set it next to me in advance, so I'll be ready to place it under the caliper.

Thanks Mike!

I appreciate it. I always keep the calipers supported but thats a good reminder. I figured it was that easy since Honda made the pad removal so straightforward. I just didn't want to get into the middle of it and have to get a special pulling tool or something else I don't have since the S is my only car.
