Replacing Differential With Different Year

Guys i'm looking at getting a new diff...

Aside from age and mileage on the diff..

Is there any difference between the AP1 diff and the AP2 diffs?
strength wise, internal gears etc...

Is it hard work to change all the flanges and all that stuff?
any one have pics of what exactly i need to change or have ready for a mechanic to change?
