Replacing cat heat shield lower cover with OEM - part damaged?
Hello all,
I've tried searching for this but its a pretty specific question and I couldn't find the answer. I have the seemingly common catalytic converter rattle and my cat needs to be replaced, but its under warranty. However, my car was an east coast car so the heat shield is rusted pretty badly so I'm replacing that as well. I ordered a bunch of parts and the heat shield cover - lower arrived seemingly damaged? It looks like it has some sort of crumbly cardboard-looking material lining the inside and some of it has peeled off. Are these important or can I safely ignore them? Pic below:
The upper cover has these strips as well but they aren't damaged.
Thanks

I would toss the flaked off parts and it would not affect performance. However, the problem I would have is a new product that we delivered to me in less than perfect condition.
