I read somewhere there was one place that made batteries for Sears, Costco, AutoZone, and Advanced. I always look for a fresh made on date and realize its lifespan is gonna be 5 years or less. (give or take)
I personally have bought Exide from Bj's wholesale Club but I worked there 15 years ago. Bought at least 10 for family/friends. Never had a problem. My HO

IMO, batteries are one of those disposable things that I don't think about much. They are dependable or they aren't.
Me, I'm a fan of the standard Autozone duralasts. They also happen to be red like my valve cover. Given that I've basically bought only those since I've had a car, I got a loyalty discount on my last one a month ago and it only costed me like $35 before any kind of pro-rated warranty. I think I may have paid $10 out the door. Batteries don't last in FL.
Sure, saving a few pounds on an Optima would be nice, but not $200 nice.
