Exclamation Replaced TCT and Adjusted Valves: Engine Still Ticking

MY: 2001
Mileage: 85,000 miles

Hey everyone, I've put the Billman TCT on it about 4 months ago and get my valves adjusted at a reputable shop 2 months ago but it is still making a ticking noise on idle and matches with revs. The only reason I ask is because the shop that adjusted my valves asked if I have replaced the TCT yet and were surprised when I said yes. They then suggested to try AMSOIL 10w-40 since I'm located in Houston so I dont have to worry about cold weather. I also got new valve springs and ap2 valve retainers and were installed by the shop.

Does this sound normal? This is about 20 miles after changing to 10w-40. (Also my engine oil was pretty black after only 2,000 miles, OEM oil filter, some regular 10w-30 oil that I can't remember, but I can save that convo for another thread... )

First half of the video I am recording different spots of valve cover, front of engine, back of engine, and near the VTEC solenoid. Send half I do the same but give it small revs.

Thanks!

Sounds fine to me. At least, from what I hear from the video.

Just out of curiosity, why did you replace the valve springs?

Thanks!

Shop recommended it and said they usually do it every time someone gets their retainers upgraded. I was like sure why not.

when you say "replaced valve retainers", I assume they also replaced the keepers with AP2 ones to match the AP2 retainers. Really no reason to replace the springs, but ok, that's fine. To my ear, sounds ok but see how others weigh in.

Take another video, 4 feet away from front of car, hood closed.

Any individual specific noises will be instantly clear.

I have never changed a single valve spring in any S2000. They are not a maintenance item on this car. I do understand the shops logic though (other cars)

The S2000 engines are "clicky" as the valve train is mechanical and the cams are just under the valve cover. In fact it you can't hear the valves they're probably too tight.

Looking forward to your new video and the results.

Mine sounds exactly like this, also thought it was TCT but it’s been like this for years so I am going to chalk this up as normal.
