Due to incessant clicking while speeding up or slowing down, yesterday on my girlfriend's S we:
- Removed factory installed spindle nut
- Made sure hub suface was clean
- Torqued new spindle nut to 220 lb-ft
On the subsequent test drive, the right rear clicked loudly once but that was it. Now we're just monitoring to see how things progress. Hopefully this won't turn into a situation require a whole new hub and bearing. (Which had to be done to my own car.)
Along those lines, can somebody explain just WHAT is causing the clicking, and WHY torquing the spindle nut to 220 lb-ft is the fix?
