Default Replace Seatbelt and It will not extend

Guys,

I just brought a s2000 with worn seat belts and seats so I replaced the seats and seat belts. Took the entire interior out to get to them. PITA!!!

The old seat belt worked but it would not retract after a certain point. its a 11 year old car so I can see why. I brought some seats and seat belts off a 05 which worked fine before it was pulled. Well I swapped it out and I can't extend the damn things to get it to bolt into the bottom part of the frame below the seats. So I tried with the old ones and now that damn thing wont do it either.

Is there a procedure I have to do or a reset I have to do or do I need to install the seats and start the car in order for the belts to extend?

Thanks for the help.

Just stepped back into a s2k after a 9-10 years hiatus.

Nothing exotic, just have to get the reel retainer to unlatch. Let the belt retract a bit, then pull it out slowly, all in one steady motion. Practice with the old one to get the right feel for it.

This assumes the explosive locks in the reels were never triggered.

Did the donor car have deployed airbags?

Neither car had exploded airbags or anything. The belts were working fine before they were taken out.

I tried the method but I think my belt has already retracted too much

So apparently my left side and right side got switched so I had to take the entire interior out. But it works now!!!

The sensor has to be at a certain angle for it to release

Oh, man. I feel for you. Every new project I give a go at turns up with some stupid oversight like that.

Cheers. Glad you got it working.

The seat belt reel should be completely level unless the locking mechanism will block you from extending seat belt even with very little angles
