Default Replace or Rebuild ?

The motor is basically shot in my s2000. There was a previous issue with the motor that i'm pretty sure the dealer tried to hide when i bought the car a few months ago cause out of nowhere my car started running rough and now it has a rod knock and my mechanic is saying the motor is done done. So long story short here is my dilemna.

Whats gonna be the better/cheaper route ?

Build the motor for turbo. Just rebuild it with stock parts replacing what was damaged. or of course just buy a whole new motor.

I have to pull the motor apart more myself to see what specifically was damaged. im hoping the cylinder walls are ok. but there was metal in the oil so something got messed up somewhere. Please help!!

Junk the motor and put the 2.2L in the car. I dunno if your gonna booost it you will need to invest in some beefy internals.... either way 9 grand RPM redline isn't easy on the drivetrain.

That is what I'm going to do when 2.0L engine #2 pops.

New short block. Head should be fine unless you mechanically over revved the engine or enough metal shavings to mess up the components.
