Repair Manual Engine Install
#11
All I did was start it up let it idle and warm up and shut it off and rechecked fluids again... Could I just top it up with some oil and drive for 500km then do an oil change? I've read some people use breakin to start the car warm it up, drain then use new oil? And I've also read somewhere people go 1000km with the break in oil before an oil change. The reason I ask is only had 5 bottles of break in oil about 946ml each.. Do I buy more break in oil to top it up or jus change the oil?

Lake Speed, Jr. at Joe Gibbs Racing, whom I would trust more than anyone about oils and engines, suggested using the breakin oil for 40min/50miles, then change oil and filter. Refill with break in oil and drive normally for 400miles. Change oil and filter and move to synthetic.
Other tidbits include no extended same rpm driving, like don't sit at 3500rpm on the freeway for long periods of time. No hard WOT runs. A thing to help rings seal is low rpm, WOT shifts.
Follow this advice for the first 1000miles (probably much more than necessary).
There are a million opinions on engine break in. Most of them based on non-factual anecdotal advice for engine and oils of the past. Today's engines and oils are far more advanced and don't require the procedures they used to.
I trust Lake Speed because he knows both racing and street engines, and he's one of a handful of people in the world that is both a certified lubrication specialist and oil monitoring analyst.

So no for just topping it off with conventional oil then, drive for 1000 then do an oil change? the first oil change can I use synthetic yet or conv oil?
Just waiting for my tires tomorrow then she'll be on the ground again and I can top it up and take it around the block..

You should go to Joe Gibbs Racing webs tie and read up on oil. He's got some great stuff.

Go to the website and read about mixing oils and "additive clash".
