Default Repair Help Neeeded (brake related)

I have a 01 with 59,000 miles on it. It was parked for well over 30 days and when I went to drive I heard as expected the usual thump of the brakes breaking loose from the rotor. Now I hear a noise that comes from the rear of the car that sounds like a flat tire (it isn't a flat). It gets worse as I speed up. Nothing appears to be rubbing.

When I looked at the car after driving it around the neighborhood I noticed that rust had been removed by friction from 3 of the 4 rotors. The driver side rear rotor still had rust on it. It appears that particular brake caliper isn't functioning.

Warped rotors maybe? Bad pads?

Anyone have any idea

Odd. Try a moderately hard braking manouver when going in reverse. This might "set" something. Failing this, try using the ebrake moderately hard when going forwards at a low speed.

Pump the e-brake while driving may be the best technique. It sounds llike the pads are still rusted to the rotor, or the e-brake hasn't released.

Get back to us if one of these techniques works. I am interested in the outcome.

if the pad is rusted to the rotor, wouldnt it break apart once the car started rolling?

and if the ebrake is not releasing, wouldnt that mean that caliper is engaged all the time, not disengaged? therefore scraping off the rust?

The brake piston could be seized and not actually clamping on the rotor.

I plan on working on this tomorrow. I am going to take pics of the rotors before I begin. I will also attempt to record the sound and post it along with the photo. I will let everyone know what I find out.

Sounds like a non-functioning caliper.

Here is the pic of of the rotor http://exit3.i-55.com/~brian/IM000350.JPG

Here is a video I took with the digicam to get the sound. If you listen for the "rubbing" on deceleration you will notice that is gets louder when the brakes are applied.

The actuall sound is a LOT louder in person.

Sounds like the caliper is stuck. I would first take the pads off and check to see if you can compress the piston like you where replacing the pads. How long had you driven before you took the pic of the rust. Its definatly something with the caliper
