Default Removing Rear damper

The Drivers side rear damper is proving to be more difficult than I thought. The tower bolts are under the filler neck for the fuel tank. Could anyone shed some light as to how this can be made easier to remove?

The manual simply tells me to "Remove the nuts on top then the 1 on the bottom"

Well as most things, it is easier said than done unless I am missing something. I need to get it out to correctly torque the upper control arm bolts on the back side of the arm

I did this yesterday and have a techique I developed

Use a 4" extension bar on the socket. For the rear most bolt go between the vent and filler tubes. For the front one, you need plenty of light in there, pull the rubber boot back and use the same extension bar to lock on to the nut. Easy once you have done it a few times.

It is a bit of a bitch but once you master it you can do it in your sleep. When finished...sit back..have beer.....and then think....what were those engineers thinking!!!

The right combo of joints will allow you to tighten the nuts. Just remember to have the weight of the car down when you do it .

Yup, that's the easy way. But I think it's three nuts on the filler plate plus one on the bracket. And it's not totally necessary.
