Removing door?
Does the fender have to come off to remove the driver door?
I just got a quote from Auto Recon in Irvine, CA for $1419.00 to remove a dent from my driver door and respray (door only)
On the list of items, I see labor charges for removing the front bumper and fender... is that really necessary?

How bad is the dent? I have seen some wonderful results from a dentless guy. For 300 he fixed a door and the rear corner from an off track/tire wall event. You can not tell. Now the front bumper and corner panel was replaced by a bodyshop, but the other tow should have been by the looks, but it can out great.

Honestly, the dent seems bad as it is not a smooth dent, it is "wrinkly".
I originally went to this bodyshop because they offer PDR, but he said he cannot do PDR on it.
I have not given up on this yet, as the paint on the dent is IMMACULATE... and the dent is not that DEEP. You really cannot even see it, except under certain lighting conditions.
I am definately planning on visiting a couple more PDR people. Worst case scenario, I will buy a used door and have it paintmatched to my car and replace it myself.
Any recommendations for a good PDR guy in the so-cal area?
This leads back to my first question (partially because I'd like to know if they are trying to pull a fast one on me): Does the bumper/fender need to come off to remove the door?
Thanks,
-JACK

I have never removed a set of doors. My educated guess is however, you will need to remove the fenders to do it. The clearance is tight with them in place. The good news is that the fenders are easy to remove. Remove the bumper and remove the bolts from the fender and it just pops off.
