removal of plastic cover in front of radiator

turbo_pwr is correct. If you do canyon carving in hot weather the engine temps will throttle back the HP. I have the IDI snorkel and I re-installed the airguide. Using prolene's idea I covered all the vents and closed off the trimmed airguide with plumbers foam tape. This forces the airflow through the radiator.

It takes a LOT of extra heat to reach 4 bars. Just because your temp guage is only showing 3 bars doesn't mean your engine is running cool.
If you are going to install "cooling mods", the cover will be even more important. The cooling mods only reduce the MINIMUM operating coolant temperature, not the MAXIMUM operating coolant temperature. The absense of the cover will cause the maximum operating temperature to go up, which will just increase the magnitude of the engine's temperature cycles.

For what it's worth, I cut mine by tracing the pattern I wanted removed then cut it with a pair of tin snips. This way I didn't have to worry about my hand slipping with the dremel (or put up with the stench of burning plastic..lol), then finished the cut edge by sanding with very fine sandpaper. This leaves a very nice finish that almost looks factory.

I've also seen the Backyard Special CF cooling plate cut to accomodate a snorkel
Here are some pix with both J's snorkel and the whole CFRP intake with the bubble chamber. I think I remember J's making a CF cooling plate too but cant find it on their site. I know bulletproof caries the Backyard Special one tho as well. I kinda prefer the JDM ones just because they are more contoured where as that custom one was flat but thats just a personal preference
Just an Idea.....

I had the snorkel intake. Didn't do much for me though in testing it provided me with VERY consistent numbers. OEM was a bit more erratic. I have not replaced the air guide fully(it was cut to fit the snorkel) I personally think it helps at highway speeds. Though yes engine bay gets a little more dirty. As well the snorkel picks up anything from Rocks/leaves/ even cigarette butts. Eventually I might spring for a different intake someday.
As for cooling mods.............they work! I installed ONLY the radiator cap and thermostat. On the dyno last week I was consitantly 8-10 degrees cooler than the other 5 cars that hit the dyno.
