That's why the rev limiter is there, just don't ride too long on it.
If you go to the track, it's pretty common to ride near the limiter or bang it just a couple times before a corner, since shifting up then back down for an extra couple MPH would just waste much more time than it would gain.

Never say never. I still get there in 1st occasionally.
I enjoy seeing that little red block flashing and telling me to shift. Surprises the heck out of other drivers and passengers in your car when they see you shifting around 5k for a while and then you take it up to 9k.
Just don't mechanically overrev and you'll be fine.

Sometimes when I get it just right I'll redline it and the fuel cut off kicks in at the same time I'm clutching-in anyway, so the cut-off happens while I'm shifting gears. I figure that's perfect timing all due to my incredible driving ability.

Hey Mike, Good to see you around again.
I hear it's been a crappy rainy summer in and around Toronto, though I think you guys haven't gotten the multiple crazy thunder storms (WITH HAIL!!!) that we have. I'll be back in Mississauga for a week or so in September before I head over to England for a week so we'll see if all the old s2000 folks are getting together for beers then.
