Default Recommend me an Impact Wrench

I'm not sure where this topic should go, but people in the UTH section can probably give me a good answer.

During the winter I bought an air compressor from Sears, but I don't have any air tools for it yet. I have about $80 that I can spend on an impact wrench at the present time. I'm not a mechanic, but I do everything for the S2000 myself. I also do work on family members cars, but that's it. My mom's Accord will need new struts pretty soon, and I'd like to use this wrench to do that job.

I was looking at Harbor Freight's website, and noticed this
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Disp...itemnumber=2623 and
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Disp...temnumber=40453
I could buy either of those now. Or should I just save up some more money and go for something like this:

What would you do?

I'm not a mechanic, just a DIY-er. No snap-on for me.

Just make sure your compressor can provide the right CFM at whatever PSI the impact wrench needs.

This is absolutely positively the best impact wrench you can buy. There is no doubt.

So, you want an air impact wrench as opposed to an electric impact wrench? My advice is to get the Ingersol-Rand 231. There are various models available (I have the IR231C). This basic design has been around for many decades, and most of the cheaper wrenches are direct copies of it. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Disp...temnumber=32431 About $110.

For some tools it makes sense to go for cheap "disposable" tools, but in this case i would say you should go for the known quality.

If you want a cordless electric impact wrench, I think the Milwaukee 9079-20 kit is the way to go. I have both -- the IR for when I'm in my garage and the Milwaukee for when I'm at the track.

I got a nice set of MAC Jesse James edition air tools for Xmas. I have used the impact gun several times. The fwd torque is selectable via a switch on the back so you can use it to put on lugs and not over tighten them nor have to use a torque stick.

You can find a kit with impact and 1/4 and 3/8 rachets on Ebay CHEAP for what they are worth.

I priced it out through the MAC guy that comes to the shop where I work and it came to almost 450 for the 3 pieces.

But the key is being able to supply the CFM and the PSi needed to run it. Impacts use a lot of air. I plan on getting a new compressor this summer just for this reason. My current set-up can't handle the impact gun, butterfly, or cut off for prolonged periods.

Here is my air compressor:

So 425 ft/lbs of torque is enough for most jobs?
