What is so difficult about using an oil extractor? If anything, it speeds up the process and its less messy. I was just shocked to see my flex tube come out of the dipstick hole with a bunch of cuts and shavings. I never experienced this in any other car that I use it on.

How can you say that is more work? If I had not run into the problem of losing suction, the extractor would have sucked all the oil out in about 10-13 min depending on the amout suction pumps I do. I know for this car I cant use it but all my other cars it makes an oil change a breeze.

Have a quick drain adapter. Oil catcher, drain and replace filter. Fill her up and it's about 20 minutes and thus far I've never run into issues. If a piece of tubing gets left in the motor what you gonna do about it? What if you don't know? The dip stick passage way was designed for the dip stick only.

Very little can go wrong when you do something the way it was intended. That's just my opinion and I think this post is proof positive that such time savers don't save any time. My time to reply to this thread should count again this. I think oil extractors are a joke. Right up their with how fair and balanced Fox News is. But that's really another discussion.

Merry Christmas!

On a side note, are you really saying this is the first oil change in 3+ years on your 2008 s2000? I know you were within the mileage range of the oil change, but I would not want to leave the same oil in my engine for 3 years...
well its an 08 but purchased in 4/09 with 118 miles on it. The car is not my daily driver. I mostly use it to go out with wife and special events. No short trips. So its more like two yrs since date of purchase. I am not sure if the dealer changed out the oil when it was sitting on their lot from 08 to 09 when I bought it. Obviously, my car is not abused or reved aggressively for no reason.
It is a good idea to change oil after a certain period of time regardless of mileage on the oil. I believe the recommendation in the owner's manual by Honda is at least once a year regardless of mileage, so you were at least twice over the recommended time change interval. My s2k is not my daily driver so it would take me quite a while to reach the 7,500 mile interval, but I change the oil every 6 months even if I haven't reached the mileage interval. It's your choice in the end, I'm just trying to give some helpful advice.

Personally another reason for changing oil the "old fashioned" way is seeing what's on (or not on) my magnetic drain plug. I can do it without lifting the car and the most time consuming part is draining as much oil out of the bottles as possible.
