Default Rebuilding motor...going to ap2 valve springs...

Hey guys, here's the story...my brother was driving my ap1 w/out my permission and ended up overheating the car. And i'm tearing down the motor right now (hopefully a blown headgasket at worse) and doing some inspections. He's going to foot the bill for everything, but i was looking at replacing my retainers. i was looking through some part numbers and didn't find any difference between 2004-2009 base or cr retainers. is there any difference?

additionally...is there anything else on the drivetrain wise that i should look at replacing? my car is pretty much back to stock now, but in the future i was thinking about doing i/h/e and aem ems as well as tuning. should i bother springs and/or valves as well.

not looking to really have insane build, but not that i'm finishing up school i'll finally have some extra cash to throw into it after the last 5 years.

thanx for any input...

I don't see any reasons to change anything. Depending on the mileage, since the head is out of the car, send it to a good machine shop for inspection and testing. they will let you know if you need to replace anything. I.E. Valves, guides, ect. They can install new retainers, cotter keys for you as well.

ok...we'll i'm defintely going to send it to a machine shop for testing once my friends dad tears down the the head (VERY experienced motor builder) but i was just curious if anything was worth replacing especially if i'm thinking of a light NA build down the line.

Nothing really worth the cost. At least IMHO. I did nothing to the three I have on the shelf. The one in the car was already done up, fancy this, special that, when I bought the head. I really can't tell. I run it N/A too with an EMS.
