Default Rebuilding Motor

So, i own an ap1, but with a blown head. my buddy owns an ap1, and wants to do an ls3 swap, so he gave me the offer of basically buying his motor and wheels for around $2,000 and we both pull our motors, tear them down, and build one motor out of the two that is in perfect condition, rebuilt, and good to go to put back into my s2k. the reason for this topic is, what else should i do while im there, and everything is torn apart? obviously clean all my parts, real good clean of engine bay, inspect everything. but this is my first rebuild, his 2nd or 3rd. and i just want to make sure everything is done correctly, any modifications i can do to make my life easier in the future, or preventive maintenance i can do while everything is torn down?

You talking about placing the head of one motor onto the crankcase of the other? Or mixing parts between the two? You prolly should check OEM tolerances between the cases and crank (for instance). Before any wholesale swaps.

I a bit confused as well with the OP's post. Are you planning on just swapping the heads? Or swapping used pistons, rods, etc?

If you're both pulling your motors, wouldn't it be easier to just put your buddy's motor in your car, rather than swapping heads or internals?

Op's head is bad but bottom end supposedly good, his buddy's engine is the opposite. How far do you want to rebuild, you wanna go to town, or do you just want a running engine?

He didn't actually say that there's anything wrong with his friend's motor - only that he wants to do an LS swap. I guess that's a reasonable assumption though, since it wouldn't make much sense otherwise.

OP should really clarify what exactly is going on.
