No, just sounds like a very stupid answer. Oh by the way I just Dyno'd two S2000 one with 4.44's and one with stock gears. The one with stock gears put down more Hp. Dyno'd both cars within an hour of each other. I'm putting 4.44's in YS and will re-dyno that car the see if hp goes up or down. I keep you guys posted.

Horsepower can ONLY go down with the additional drive train loss of the lower gears! Have you ever dyno'ed a car in 1st gear, then 2nd gear, then 3rd gear ... and compared the numbers? 1st gear will show the lowest numbers.

The further you go from 1:1 gearing (up or down), there is more loss. The only cause that comes to mind is friction. The performance will benefit, due to an increase in mechanical advantage, but there will be a higher loss of power through the drivetrain.
