No, just sounds like a very stupid answer. Oh by the way I just Dyno'd two S2000 one with 4.44's and one with stock gears. The one with stock gears put down more Hp. Dyno'd both cars within an hour of each other. I'm putting 4.44's in YS and will re-dyno that car the see if hp goes up or down. I keep you guys posted.

Horsepower can ONLY go down with the additional drive train loss of the lower gears! Have you ever dyno'ed a car in 1st gear, then 2nd gear, then 3rd gear ... and compared the numbers? 1st gear will show the lowest numbers.

The further you go from 1:1 gearing (up or down), there is more loss. The only cause that comes to mind is friction. The performance will benefit, due to an increase in mechanical advantage, but there will be a higher loss of power through the drivetrain.

Last time I checked everytime I dyno car after I change gears the horse power difference might be 2% if that. Let's face it gears don't make horse power.

You're right. They just change way the power is applied to the tires, but there is generally additional loss any time mechanical advantage is increased. I am sure the difference will probably be very small, but lower gears should produce lower dyno numbers.

How can hp go down with Higher gears. Shouldn't make more hp(ie. help accl. better).Don't you accl. better in first gear when you take off than in second gear?
