The thing with the tranny is that it's the next weakest link. The first one is the clutch, then the rear end, then the tranny and then the axles and cv joints.

As you put more power down and start to reinforce stuff, you have to do the whole thing, or else leave the clutch stock so it can slip.

I have a kaaz that's going in with new gears in the next couple of days and I'm kind of worried. I don't even have the bearing caps or the case. Going to shorter gears will relieve some pressure from the rear end though, so it should be all right.

We are talking as if the clutch was aready changed. After that the Tranny is the weak link.

i sheared about 1/4 of the teeth off of my pinion gear, and my S2000 is 100% bone stock.

Slick, what makes you think that?
I'm not worried. You have my word on this though - if the tranny breaks, my car will be the first S2000 with a sequential tranny in it

My turbo kit is almost done, they are saying it should make over 400hp and the whole rear end thing has me worried sick.

Shorter gears will relieve tension and transmit it to the ground.

Imagine riding a ten speed up a hill.

If you are in a low gear it's easy to pedal and the chain is not under a lot of pressure.

Now shift to a high gear. It's much harder to pedal and the chain looks like it's gonna snap.

Same thing for the rear end, tranny etc. Imagine what would happen if you did a clutch drop in 4th gear with a super strong clutch. There wouldn't be enough force to spin the wheels, so the rear end would destruct.
