You have a seized bearing in the hub,,,,that is why someone took out the axle,,, so they could move the car.
That doesn't make any sense. I agree that the bearing could be siezed, but removing the axle wouldn't make it any easier to move. However, the missing axle could have contributed to the bearing siezing, since the bearing would be completely exposed to the elements.

Yes, I should have said: "as an attempt to move the car".....odd that the axle is gone

If it's a rusted on brake, then put on the tow loop and give a gentle pull to see if it breaks it loose. If it doesn't then it's most likely a seized bearing.

Maybe it was sold as parts in the last two years? I wonder what else might be missing.

Without the axle installed there is nothing holding the bearing together. Moving it around without the axle will cause the bearing to seperate allowing the wheel to wobble. If it wobbles enough it will cause the ABS cog to take out the ABS sensor. It will also cause the brake rotor to not ride in the brake caliper correctly. The miss alignment between rotor and caliper is likely whats causing the problem.

Yes, the rotor and caliper were rusted together. I took the assembly apart and now it moves.

Thanks for the help!
