Arrow the rear wheel creaking never ends

Hi folks - this is a follow-up from my previous post:

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showt...0&#entry9189507

Quick summary: I'm getting a creaking noise from the rear passenger wheel ONLY under braking. The *creak creak creak* is rotational and slows as the car comes to a halt. Took it to a dealer, axle nut was torqued to spec, brakes were fine, pads are fine, no foreign objects are lodged anywhere and there is no component rubbing what-so-ever.

Recently I noticed an alarming coincidence - I only hear the noise after a rain...basically when that area is wet. After our last storm I drove the car the next day and lo' and behold it started creaking again. It would get less noticeable as the undercarriage dried out from driving (usually takes a 30 mile trip on the freeway) until I can't really hear it anymore.

There is one more thing I noticed after coming in from a drive AFTER the streets had been dry for 3 days after this storm - there was a water puddle underneath the rear passenger axle area in my garage. I checked for a faulty boot but it looked properly sealed to me.

One thing I should mention is that the car did have a moderate impact in that rear passenger area that involved the replacement of a control arm.

Again, I'm at a loss...any clues/suggestions? Thanks.

I would definately get the car up on jacks and take the rear wheel off and inspect it. Inspect the entire area. Wash the entire area and clean the brake assembly.

Some things to check:

Brake wear indicator
Debri between the pad and rotor
Rotor hot spots, warped rotor
Axle nut torque
Wheel Bearing metal on metal no grease
CV joint housing
Struts
Springs

The fluid under the problem area is suspect to some sort of failure or leak.

i had an 03 that had the same exact sound. happened to me on a long trip, about 900 miles. halfway through the trip, it started doing this scraping sound at higher speeds, after about 100 miles it turned into this loud groaning, creaking sound that was rotational at lower speeds. after getting home, had that side retorqued, and it all went away.

bought a new bearing and hub, but ended up trading the car in soon after.
