Default Rear plastic window tear...

so today i noticed i have little tear (one inch) at the bottom middle where the plastic joins the black edge of the convertible top. it does not extent into the plastic...just along the edge. i was thinking of using some strong glue carefully and maybe even some very strong tape to close it from the inside and keep it from extending further along the edge.

anyone have any advice on how to attack this and keep it from causing any further tear??

also, if this fails and/or is worsening...do i have to replace the whole top or can i somehow just replace the plastic (crappy) window. i really don't want some little tear to turn into an $800 ordeal.

thanks in advance!!

If you use strong glue (super glue) it will become even more brittle. Might have to look into a rubber cement type.
What sort of tape did you have in mind? Gaffer tape prob wont do the job..

i used clear duct tape on both sides for 2 weeks and a drop never entered the cabin. After honda warranteed the tear, they replaced the window. I wish they would have replaced the whole top with a glass window. It would have costed the same according to the costing from the dealer. 1400 bucks to replace the window. A new top with glass will be around 1500.

luckily i work at a honda dealer and the plastic window was about 200 for me and i installed it myself. i wouldnt suggest installing it yourself if you dont know what you are doing. VERRRY time consuming as well. you are looking at about 5-7 hundred dollars for the labor if you have it done at a dealer. best bet is to go with glass or a hardtop.

Had the same thing happen right after I got my s. I went to autozone and got some clear tape made just for that. Didn't leak a drop.

I did have that rear section of the top replaced though.. You can buy just that window section from honda for about 200. I took it to a local upholstery shop and had them replace it.
