They claim an impact is the only thing that could have caused the damage, but the only impact was in a previous wreck to the drivers side front. Which they say could not have caused the damage. Its going to private shop monday or tuesday and i will see what they have to say about it.. I will ask them about a bearing end-play measurement as well..

the quote from honda was $1600 to repair it..

i'm also curious why they say the knuckle needs to be replaced. ask them specifically what's wrong with it.

the hub could very easily need to be replaced, depending on how bad the bearing is/was. the hub can get scored if the bearing is really bad.

if you're doing it yourself, i'd recommend replacing the hub as well as the bearing. better safe than sorry, and the hub doesn't cost all that much.

saying that the wheel will fall off is complete bs. the bearing is held in by two retainign rings along with being pressed in and then on top of that the hub is pressed in and then everything is hel to gether by the outer cv joint and axle nut. wtf. they were trying to scare you into replacing all. replace the hub and bearing and you will have no further problems. notice bearing #36 and everything that is after it. the axle goes through the middle of that and holds it all together.

Make sure the backing plate hasn't warped a little and is rubbing the rotor. I had this happen on another car.
